I help women optimize their health throughout the different phases of their life from preconception, fertility to post partum care and then during perimenopause & menopause. As women, we are defined by our hormonal fluctuations and unique needs during the different phases of our life. I work with my clients to help them achieve optimal hormonal balance by addressing the underlying foundation.

My journey.....
Many Naturopathic doctors have their own health story of what led them to Naturopathic medicine. I am no different. My journey started at 19 years old when I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC). UC is a debilitating chronic inflammatory bowel disease with symptoms of severe pain and cramping, chronic diarrhea, bleeding, severe anemia, and fatigue. I was immediately put on steroids to control the bleeding and pain and was also given medications to help suppress the inflammation and pain. I was told that I would have to take these medications for the rest of my life.
I was also told that I would likely get cancer sometime in my 30's.... yes, they really did tell a 19 yo that. I was so afraid and took the medications as I was told. I was ok for a while but I continued to have "flare-ups" which were managed with more medications. Soon, I started suffering from side effects from the medications so I was given even more medications to try to control the side effects. I was on a 'roller coaster' ride of medications and side effects and it was not a fun ride to be on! I felt awful. No one was trying to help me understand how I got this disease in the first place and what I could do about it.
I luckily had the opportunity to move overseas and while there I met with a "Naturopathic Doctor" who helped me understand that I could feel better and get well by using natural medicines and changing my diet. I followed his advice and after about 8 weeks I was a different person! I was able to stop my prescription medications and was so happy when all the side effects I was suffering from disappeared!
This experience empowered me so much that after I moved back to the US I knew I had to help others understand how natural medicine could help them reverse their disease process by addressing the underlying cause and not just rely on prescription medications to suppress the symptoms or take a bunch of vitamins to try to mask the real problem.
"Find the root cause" became my motto
After graduating from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, I joined a practice and helped many women address their health conditions in a natural manner. I learned quickly that no two people have the same disease or illness. Every person's body shows imbalances or deficiencies in different ways. And, this is why it is so important to address the individual person and not just treat symptoms or lab work.
A common example is two women may suffer from terrible migraine headaches. In conventional medicine they would probably be given the same medication to help suppress the pain symptoms.
but, this doesn't really work long term......
That natural healing force within each of us is the greatest force in getting well
- Hippocrates
The reason for the migraine headaches for these two women are completely different. One woman has significant food sensitivities due to her leaky gut and this causes her to have migraines. The other woman has liver congestion which is contributing to her hormonal imbalance which is the cause of her headaches. In both cases inflammation is an underlying factor but the wellness plan they were put on was very different.
Hopefully this all makes sense and this is why I encourage women to keeping asking "Why?" Always try to dig deeper to find out what the real underlying factor is for your symptoms. Is it specific nutritional deficiencies due to poor digestion and absorption? Is it hormonal imbalance due to liver congestion and adrenal stress?
Everything in our bodies is connected to everything else so if you're having issues with one system (thyroid, let's say) then you can be sure other systems in your body are affected (adrenals, hormones, weight, lipids, etc)
It doesn't matter if it is infertility, hot flashes, night sweats, hair loss, heavy periods, joint pain or any other health issue you have. Find the underlying cause.
My baby journey.........
I wanted to have children but because of my history with Ulcerative Colitis and a family history of complications during pregnancy and labor I wasn't sure if having a baby was in my future.
I knew that good Preconception Care is the key for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. For months I read medical journals and learned what was needed to improve egg and sperm quality and why this is so important for my future baby's health and my baby's babies in the future.
I followed a cleanse program and then spent the following 2 months taking key nutrients to support egg quality and fertility. As a future mom I became passionate about fertility and children's health.
I learned that our children's health starts with our own health..... before we even conceive them! Yes, our baby's health depends on how healthy we are. It takes 3 months to support and nurture egg and sperm's quality.
I had my son when I was 36 and I had my daughter at 40. Every single day I am grateful for their health and strong vitality. I know that preparing my body was key to an easy conception, pregnancy and most importantly, healthy children.
I always tell clients who are worried about taking 3 months "off" from "trying" because they are worried they are getting older and don't have time to waste that 3 months in the grand scheme of things is nothing. Wouldn't you rather invest in good preconception care and have the peace of mind knowing you did everything you could for your fertility and baby's health instead of having regrets later?
So many women are led to believe that all they need to take is a prenatal and some folic acid during the preconception period. This is just wrong and I am on a mission to help women understand what real Preconception Health is.
I help future moms (and future dads) address their underlying health so that they can get pregnant easily and most importantly, have a super healthy child.
Even if IVF is the only option there is still so much that can be done to help boost and optimize health in order to boost the success rate of the IVF procedure.
Here's why I became so passionate about fertility and proper preconception care:
I learned that infertility or recurrent miscarriages could be due underlying deficiencies or imbalances and forcing a body to get pregnant using medical procedures like IUI or IVF is not the right answer if these underlying health imbalances have not been corrected first. I encourage women to focus on their underlying health first before considering these expensive and potentially risky procedures.
Infertility can be a sign.... listen to your body and address your underlying health first.
Based on my own experience and the research I have done I put together a Preconception Health program which provides a structured protocol for 3 months for future moms (and dads) to follow. The goal of this program is to optimize your health prior to conception by reducing inflammation, feeding all your cells with the key nutrients to boost egg and sperm quality and to help your body make fertility a priority.
I also work with couples who have been struggling with fertility and put together a Fertility program to help guide couples through the process of identifying where their fertility roadblocks are and then providing a plan to overcome those roadblocks. Infertility can be a sign.... listen to your body and address the underlying cause.
There is so much research available telling us what we can do to help overcome fertility issues and help give our baby's the best start possible.
The next phase for me....
I am so grateful for my 2 healthy pregnancies and my 2 healthy kids but the reality is I now have to start thinking about Perimenopause and Menopause.
I have helped so many women in the past with their "menopausal symptoms" like hot flashes, night sweats, irregular or heavy periods, hair thinning, decreased libido, bone loss, etc. The one thing in common with all of these women was that they had neglected their health for so long that their health foundation was "all out of whack" which is why the transition into menopause was so difficult. I helped these women to re-balance their health foundation by addressing their imbalances and deficiencies.
By helping all of these women I learned that preparing for perimenopause and menopause starts now.... what I mean is that there is no magic age that you have to be to start preparing for menopause. The more time you focus on your health and help to support your health foundation the easier and uneventful menopause will be. So, it doesn't matter how old you are.. if you want to make menopause a breeze and something to look forward to instead of something to fear then start focusing on your health now.
Assess and address any imbalances or deficiencies you have and optimize your health.
